Research (Week 2): The Third Newspaper

Finally met with the owner of the last paper, Seminario Nuevo Continente. They were away in Mendoza last week to cover the establishment of a Chinese Business Association for that region.

Findings:
Founded in 1998, Seminario Nuevo Continente is the only Mainland Chinese-owned paper in Buenos Aires. Although its office is right next to the Economic and Business office of the Chinese embassy, the editor, Wang Shuang Rong insists that they are completely privately owned and they are not related or funded by their neighbor.

At the time of founding, all the newspapers were Taiwanese-owned. This paper was founded to cater to the rapidly growing numbers of Mainland Chinese immigrants. Circulation is about 1400. Four reporters write up articles about local events.

Wang said that try to take a more neutral political stance, and they prefer to use China / Taiwan related news from newspapers from Singapore and other neutral countries. However, they do work closely with the People's Daily and Xinhua, regularly submitting news items about Argentina and collaborating on projects.

Archives are available.

Question:
The question now is that, since none of these papers write their own material on Taiwan/China, is it still worth looking at the type, source, and stance of the articles they pull from the internet?
